Valencia, April 2, 2025 – Sport is a cornerstone of society, not only for what it does for health and wellbeing but also for its part in holding communities together and in the local economy. The effects of the DANA floods in the Region of Valencia have hit the sporting fabric hard, putting its future at risk. To respond to that, and to reinforce the rebuilding work already under way, ESPORT x VALÈNCIA has been created: the first public-private platform designed to connect needs

with answers, organize resources, channel support and work toward a sustainable future for sport in Valencia.

In its first phase, ESPORT x VALÈNCIA acts as a coordination space to channel resources and help rebuild sport in Valencia after the floods. But its purpose goes beyond immediate recovery: as that process moves along, ESPORT x VALÈNCIA will develop into the Region of Valencia’s Sports Industry Cluster, establishing a stable cooperation network bringing together companies, institutions and organizations from the sector. That cluster will work to strengthen the region’s sports industry over the long term.

ESPORT x VALÈNCIA is the first public-private platform for channelling support, connecting needs and speeding up the recovery of the sporting ecosystem after the floods. It is driven by the Sports Industry Cluster and Fundación Felisa, working with key players in the region’s sporting ecosystem: the Directorate-General for Sport of the Region of Valencia, GEPACV, COLEFCV, CONFEDECOM, FNEID and the Sport Chair at the Universitat Politècnica de València.

“Sport is much more than physical activity; it is community, values and an economic engine. With ESPORT x VALÈNCIA we want to make sure no club and no sports facility is left behind,” said Luis Cervera Torres, director-general for sport of the Region of Valencia. “This platform is a key tool for mobilizing resources quickly and effectively, and it also lets us keep the sector’s needs up to date in real time and make sure the answers reach where they are needed most.”

For his part, Iván Salazar, coordinator of the Sports Industry Cluster, stressed the business sector’s part in the process: “At the Sports Industry Cluster we firmly believe in the power of public-private collaboration to produce real, effective answers. ESPORT x VALÈNCIA does not just respond to the current emergency; it lays the foundations for a permanent structure to support the sector’s growth and its future.”

ESPORT x VALÈNCIA is open to any organization connected with sport, public or private. Organizations affected by the floods can sign up on the platform (https://ayudadeportevalencia.org/) to set out what they need, while partner companies and organizations can offer their resources and join the support projects.

By registering, participants can: access a directory of needs and connect with the organizations affected, update how their needs are changing and make it easier to follow the recovery properly, and express interest in rebuilding projects and contribute resources or services. They can also join the geo portal of Valencia’s sporting fabric and become part of an active collaboration network.

From Fundación Felisa, Aitor Reche, the Foundation’s director of sport, stressed how much solidarity and coordination matter here: “Our commitment is to mobilize resources and support so that sport in Valencia recovers as soon as possible. Bringing together the efforts of government, business and civil society is key to having a real, lasting effect. ESPORT x VALÈNCIA is a living tool, one that will let us respond quickly to the needs that come up at each stage of the recovery.”
